My beloved and I are popping away for the weekend to visit our dear friend Lauren and her wee girl Ngaio, where they are living in Methven, a pretty town about an hour south-west of Christchurch. We are taking the doggies and bunnies with us as Lauren has a very friendly house (and Ngaio looooves Thumper). I was very proud of my packing, I am terrible for bringing waaaay too much with me on holidays and fit everything into 2 bags. I know. Amazing huh. Back on Monday with a post of the weekend.

Last year on the 22nd of February, at 12:51pm, there was a 6.3 magnitude earthquake that rocked my beautiful home town. 185 people were killed, buildings were destroyed , including the iconic Christchurch Cathedral and my favourite Christchurch building, the Basilica. Today we remembered those who we lost, what we have lost as a city and what the future holds for Christchurch.

I went along with the doggies to the memorial in Hagley Park, the main park in Christchurch and there was a service that included reading out the names of those killed and having two minutes of silence to remember them. It was very eerie and a stark reminder of how quickly a city can change forever.

On a random side note, something that really bugged me today was a group of women standing near me at the memorial service that talked loudly, laughed and txt while the names of those lost were read out and the 2 minutes silence were being observed. Everyone else was standing up silently and showing their respect and these women didn't seem to give a damn about doing the same. Reminded me how much I value respect, etiquette and politeness in general and how much it bugs me when people don't behave in a respectful manner in situations like this.

I'm not the hugest fan of pants. On me that is. I prefer dresses. they are just so much easier to find. And wear . And fit. These pants are pretty good though. They are high waisted and just long enough... but not too long. I just got these gorgeous tan loafers with some birthday money (birthday post to come tomorrow) and thought they would mix perfectly with these pants. I love that whole 40's/50's 'casual chic' look of cigarette or capri  pants with an oversized white shirt and glasses. gives you that whole 'day off' feel and look. I love these glasses. I don't wear prescription lenses but these ones without lenses are so fabulous. Toto had fun in this photoshoot.... but what he really wanted  was for me to put my book down and throw his toy for him. After a while I couldn't resist and threw his toy. Wee cutie petutie.
Pants: Thrifted
Shirt: Thrifted
Glasses: Gift from my dear friend Vanessa of Two Squirrels Vintage (their online shop opening on March 5th yay!)
Loafers: The Warehouse

Two weeks ago my beloved and I took the doggies and visited our dear friend Lauren and her gorgeous wee daughter Ngaio in their house in Methven. It was a perfect day and Methven is such a beautiful, peaceful spot, with the mountains close by. Not far from Methven is an amazing vintage shop that has the most incredible range of goodies. I came home with a few fabulous bits and pieces and this dress was one of them. I think it's a 50's one, such pretty colour and super soft cotton.

Dress: Mayfield Junk store
Scarf: Thrifted
Belt: Thrifted
Gloves: Thrifted
Cardigan: Thrifted
Shoes: Dance Pacific

                                                          Replica army hat
(I have an original WW2 one of these but this one will be less delicate to wear)
                                                           Doggie ornament
Bunny ornament. My beloved got me one a week before the
sale and I found the 2nd one at the sale. Fate!!
                                                                  Polka dot bunnies
So last weekend was the Two Squirrels closing down sale. It was bittersweet as it was so sad to think I would never return to the shop but there were so many goodies. I found so many fabulous things (all the goodies above) and I also got an awesome white and silver cape (coolest find EVER) that I post with an outfit to show its full glory. I also found a woll cropped cardigan and an gorgeous tan trench coat that matches my bag (cuz ya know tan is the new black) that I will also pop on an outfit post. I will update you with the next adventure for the squirrels-there online store-as soon as it opens you will know about it!

Last weekend was my beloved birthday, so we celebrated with a family BBQ. It was a gorgeous summer day so I decided to wear this wee floral ensemble. I have wanted a head piece like this for a while now and almost shrieked with joy when I found this one in its original packaging. Some lovely lady maybe used it for her wedding some time ago and never worn it gain after that.

The BBQ was a lovely mix of delicious food, happy dogs getting plenty of play time and a chocolate Muppet Cake for my beloved (he is Muppet mad). Happy birthday my love!
