Well these two things normally don't go together but...welcome to Christchurch!! To add to the already ridiculous amount of earthquakes Christchurch has had since September 4th 2010, we had 2 more significant ones today. A 5.8 and a 6.0. We are all ok and so is everyone we know, our house is fine and our fur babies are safe and sound. So I am determined to still enjoy Christmas, despite the many aftershocks (there has been 2 as I have been doing this blog post). Here's to a Merry Christmas despite earthquakes!! xxxxxxx BLV

I found out this week that I am graduating this term from the post grad teaching studying I have been doing this year, so I will soon be an official Performing Arts Teacher yay! (I completed a Bachelor of performing Arts a few years ago). It has been a tough year of study, with the earthquakes adding all kinds of interesting experiences while I developed my teaching skills, but it feels like it has all been worth it. Here I am with the paper my tutors gave me stating that I would finish this term. Hell yes!!!!

Meet Foofoo the bunny. She is our newest addition the the fur babies. Isn't she the cutest? She is a mini lop, just like Thumper, and she is so much fun. I will pop some more photos of her as soon as I can get her sitting still enough....

So this is the first weekend in a while that I have actually had time to blog. I am studying a post grad teaching course (to become a high school performing arts teacher), so I have been crazy busy trying everything done to hopefully finish this term. I really don't like being busy. I love having time to read. And walk the doggies. And play with the bunny. And re arrange my wardrobe. Yep me and busy just don't mix well. This weekend I had no homework to do which was so amazing, and my beloved and I had a lovely, relaxing time. We visited Vanessa and Warren at their gorgeous shop, Two Squirrels, and my beloved got me a Graduation present-this amazing purple hat, isn't it pretty?  xxxx

So I never really got into the underbelly series. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they are all great series, but they just never really appealed.... Until they did a series set in the roaring 20's. I love 1950's and 1940's fashion, but there is just something about the 1920's that makes me fall in love with it over and over. The gorgeous flowing dresses with no waist lines, the amazing cloche hats, the cute little purses and the long layers of beaded necklaces. I have watched this series more times that I dare to count, and I have developed a little bit of a girl crush on Tilly Devine (played by Chelsie Preston Crayford). I love all the strong purple shades and cloche hats they have designed for Tilly, her fierce pommy accent and her wide collection of silk and satin 20's dresses. (They also have some gorgeous little doggies on the show).Under belly Razor, I want to raid your wardrobe.

Meet Lady Jane the fox. She was won at a vintage auction by my beloved who spotted her and knew her and I would be the best of friends. She and I have been in-separable since. She just loves snuggling up with me and                     keeping me super warm.
On a more serious note..... wearing fur is one of those things I have always been so unsure about. As an animal lover with 8 pets whom I adore completely, I cannot support a fur industry that enables animal cruelty to continue in the name of fashion. Vintage fur though, is so different. If people only ever wore vintage fur, instead of new fur, the demand for new fur would eventually cease to exist, and the modern fur industry would dissolve. So, I will wear vintage fur and only vintage fur, and love these items of the past that would otherwise be chucked to the back of someones attic unloved .

When it comes to vintage clothing, it can take a long time to find items you want in your wardrobe, particularly in New Zealand, as it is a young country and doesn't have the wide range of vintage you would find in Europe or the States. So I make lists of things that I want to find and sometimjes it can take years to find the perfect item, but it is so very worth it when you do get it. In the last 2 weeks I have found 2 things from my wish list, which I am feeling very pleased about (and now I can cross things off my to-find list-very excitng....).
The first was these boots that I have since worn to death, and actually get a little bit sad when I have to wear other shoes from my wardrobe beacuse the boots don't match my outfit (in which case I may have changed the outfit to work with the boots...). I have been wanting a pair of black victorian look boots ever since watching and reading Pride and Prejudice at age 11 (it ties equal with The Lord of the Rings Trilogy as my favourite book), as they are the only type of footwear other than my canvas rubber soled shoes that I can wear walking my doggies, something I do every day. I refuse to wear trainers, as I think that these trainers are appropriate for one place and one place only-the gym (unless you are a runner). Trainers just don't appeal to me at all.
One of the other items on my wish list was a pair of cat eye glasses that I could take the lenses out of (as I don't wear prescription glasses), and these I have been on the look out for for some time. Imagine my happiness when Vanessa from Two Squirrels vintage gifted me these gorgeous on from her own collection!! I was a very happy gal indeed. I love the shape and colour of them and I have been wearing them non-stop.
Thankyou Vanessa!! These glasses are super dooper awesome. Yep.

Saturday was wonderful. It was my dear friend Christina's 30th birthday and she celebrated it with a gorgeous High Tea celebration. I love any excuse to dress up, and I knew this gorgeous pink 50's dress would be the one to wear with a nice big poofy underskirt. I have been waiting for an opportunity to wear this amaaaaazing hat and Saturday was the day! It was so much fun, Christina looked beautiful in a gorgeous 50's green polka dot dress, and we had fun getting photos outside the venue. The only thing missing was our dear friend Andrea, who move to the USA last year. She was there in spirit.
